Psychedelia and the Psychedelic movement

The psychedelic movement began in the mid 1960's and had an effect, not just on music, but on several aspects of popular culture,. This included style of dress, language and the way people spoke, art, literature and peoples overall outlook on life.

It mainly held influence over genres such as blues, rock 'n' roll and folk which began using different recording methodes and non-western istrument such as sitars as well as drawing on effects such as the drones of indian music.

After the 1960's the movement subsided, only to be revived again in the late 1970's through to the 1980's. This was known as 'neo-pschedelia'. As well as these new psychedelic bands many musicians took influence from the psychedelic genre and incorperated aspects into electronic music, creating genres such as acid house and trance. This new wave of electronic psychedelic music is still relatively popular amongst certain groups.

Those who were part of the movement of psychedelia were usually referred to as hippies and generally those who follow the new wave of psychedelic music would also be refered to as 'rave generation hippies'.

Kasabian - Cutt Off

The song 'Cutt Off' by 'Kasabian' is thematically very similar to our chosen song as well as Kasabian being highly influenced by the psychedelic side of music. There is a very specific part of the lyrics at the beginning of the track, "John was a scientist, he was hooked on LSD, interested in mind control...", that i believe to be a reference to the experiments conducted on drugs such as LSD. It could also be a specific reference to the *MK-ULTRA experiments, which are highly relevant to Al Hubbard and his involvement with various government organisations and the rumors that he participated in such experiments.

Unfortunately due to copy right restrictions i was unable to post the official music video but it can be viewed on youtube via this link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_V1VX_C9VQ
